Transport & Travel

The Wey Valley School is a green Eco school with a commitment with Dorset County Council to reduce its carbon footprint. DCC provides annual information on student travel to school which is considered by the student Eco Committee with periodic reviews to make improvements, inform staff and students and make the school and campus greener.

Walking

Students are able to access the campus from the main entrance gate, exit gate, Court Road gate and St Nicholas & St Laurence gate. The Wey Valley School has improved walkways on the campus so that all students, staff and visitors can reach their destination safely.

Cycling

The school has covered cycle shelters for up to 200 cycles all in view of CCTV cameras and all located at the front of school. Students are encouraged to cycle to school, but are advised to wear a cycle helmet for safety reasons and bring a padlock. The school, in partnership with Sustrans, holds a Bike-It Breakfast every half term where students who cycle to school receive a free breakfast in the Diner. Students are advised to see Mr Salmon in the PE Department for further details.

Recent improvements on Dorchester Road with new cycle lanes and new pathways / cycle lanes by the Weymouth relief road are further strategies to help students (and staff) cycling to school.

Scooters

The school has a dedicated scooter rack adjacent to the Cycle shelter. Students are advised to wear appropriate safety gear when travelling to and from school.

Bus

Dorset County Council has a Home to School Transport policy and parents can view this document by clicking here.

Public buses operate in the area and include:

The school has two dedicated Real Time Passenger Information screens which keep students informed of bus times.

Car

The campus has a part one-way system when arriving at Wey Valley, with a 10 MPH speed limit throughout. Please be mindful of pedestrians on the campus and the road crossings between the schools.

Parents / carers are advised not to park in the staff car parking area, to keep road ways clear for buses and to park by the Tennis Centre car park.
