Tennis is on the up as Centre celebrates 5th birthday

The Wey Valley Tennis Centre, based at the Wey Valley Campus in Weymouth is about to celebrate 5 years of indoor tennis with tennis participation in the region on the up.  The centre which has 4 courts and hosts regional and local tennis tournaments, a comprehensive tennis coaching programme, pay and play options continues to see an increase in interest in this popular sport.

The coaching programme which is run by Julien Lawes, Head Coach of Weymouth Tennis Club said: “my coaching team and I are pleased to see such a positive uptake with our tennis coaching programme and our Sports Factory holiday camp.  There are a number of talented young tennis players who are improving all the time with great potential to go far and we are keen to invite any persons interested in the sport to come down to the centre”.  

The Tennis Centre is also now under new management through the Wey Valley School, with Ryan Matthews the newly appointed Tennis Liaison Officer.  Mr Matthews added: “there is no membership fee, with players only required to register their details on our on-line booking system to hire courts.  Since September we have seen a number of new tennis players visiting the centre and we are continuing to liaise with the Lawn Tennis Association to develop our facilities and broaden tennis opportunities for all”.

Court bookings for the centre can be made via the Wey Valley School website or at with court prices now reduced to £10 per court hour and £8 at off-peak times.  Tennis enquires can also be made by phoning the Centre on 01305 817069.

Marie Claridge, Head of PE at Wey Valley added: “we are set for a great tennis season with Great Britain competing in the Davis Cup Final and our tennis professionals inspiring our younger tennis players to fulfil their potential and go far in this sport.”
