Students celebrate British Science week

The Wey Valley School celebrated British Science week with an inspirational visit to the Big Bang Fair, held at the N.E.C. Birmingham.

British Science week, which runs from the 9th to 18th March saw a host of events and activities at the N.E.C with 43 students taking part in exhibitions, hands-on practical activities and problem solving.   The interactive Science displays were ably supported by famous exhibitors such as The Royal Air Force, Rolls Royce, JCB and the NHS, to name but a few.

The Big Bang Fair promotes the engagement of children with STEM subjects; Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths with a view to securing future careers with many of the exhibitors at the show.

Mr Hartley, Science teacher who organised the trip added, ‘Our students relished the opportunity to link their classroom knowledge with potential careers in the real world. Our students displayed great confidence in tackling anything on the day and it was a privilege to see them so engaged.’

Mr Hartley added ‘ The Big Bang Fair 2019 runs from the 13th to 16th March 2019 and we are looking forward to next year already!’

Ms Sara Adams, Principal at Wey Valley celebrated another excellent curriculum based trip, ‘our students have gained some valuable insights and experiences of science in action in the workplace and the many possible career opportunities from this fantastic subject has to offer’.
