SEN and Disabilities

Special Educational Needs at The Wey Valley School                                    

The SEN Policy, SEN Local Offer and SEN Information Report have all been reviewed by the school (December 2017) and can be found via links on this webpage.

Support is provided at the Wey Valley School via two centres.

 ·         Student Support Centre ( SSC )

This is support for students with learning difficulties and is led by Mrs J Wright, SENCo.

  ·         The Learning Centre ( TLC )

This is support for students with social, emotional and mental health needs and is led by Mr S Collins.

 Student Support Centre

 ·         Supports students in classrooms with a team of Teaching Assistants

 ·         Supports a wide range of special needs such as and including literacy, numeracy, ASD, ADD, ADHD, Tourettes Syndrome, Dyspraxia, visual and hearing impairments, Dyslexia (SpLD), Epilepsy and physical disability

 ·         Withdraw students for intensive teaching programmes one to one or in small groups

 ·         Liaises with outside agencies

 ·         Works with students from Year 7 to Year 11 across the range of abilities

The Learning Centre

  ·         Works with students with social, emotional behavioural and mental health needs across the ability range and curriculum

 ·         Supports students struggling with issues surrounding: Stress, Anxiety, Low Self Esteem, relationships, Lack of Confidence, Depression, Grief and Loss, Attachment, Anger, Aggression, ADHD, Truancy, Organisation, School Phobia and Exclusion

 ·         Supports students in small groups / 1:1 in the centre

 ·         Works extensively with outside agencies to benefit each individual student

 ·         Has ELSAs – Emotional, Literacy Support Assistants / Thrive
