New York and Washington Trip 2016

New York and Washington Trip 2016

Over 40 Wey Valley students visited New York and Washington during the Easter holidays as part of an educational and sightseeing tour with the aim of providing students with an opportunity to enhance their experience of different cultures.

The eight day tour was a busy one with students visiting Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, Grand Central Station, the Empire State building, Central Park, Times Square and 5th Avenue.

Whilst in the historical city of Washington DC, students learned about the history of early America. Visits included The Lincoln Memorial, The Mall, Arlington, The White House, George Town and a variety of museums found at the Smithsonian.

Maggie Ayles, a student in Year 10 said, ‘it was my first visit to New York and Washington and the trip was fantastic – we visited so many famous and historical sites, the 9/11 memorial was very moving!’

Lauren Powell, also in Year 10 added, ‘the trip to Washington was great especially seeing the White House and the grounds. I would thoroughly recommend the trip to other students as you see so much’.

Lucy Menaldino also added, ‘it was my first trip to New York and Washington – I really enjoyed the Lincoln Memorial visit. The whole visit was fantastic, from sampling new foods, seeing different cultures and visiting renowned statues and landmarks.  I would like to thank Miss Claridge and the staff who accompanied us on the trip – the trip was really well organised.’

Miss Claridge, Head of PE and trip organiser said, ‘the students were an absolute pleasure and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The New York and Washington trip takes place every two years and this is the fifth trip for Wey Valley. The next trip is due in April 2018’.
