Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset Launches Young and Talented Fund with an Inspiring Programme Showcasing Local Talent

The Lord-Lieutenant of Dorset Mr Angus Campbell has just  launched an appeal for donations  for his Young and Talented Fund set up in partnership with the Dorset Community Foundation – a local charity which raises  funds for those most in need. The launch event took place at Wey Valley School in Weymouth and included speeches from internationally acclaimed artist Stuart Semple, Taekwondo champion Kate Norman and Rebecca Raybould - part of the GB Cycling Team. The guest were entertained by the vocally talented Beaminster Pop Club.

The fund has been set up to support an array of young people aged between 14-21 who have a recognised talent in the areas of sport, the arts, science and beyond, but who need some additional funding (due to personal or financial hardship) to fulfil their ambitions or reach their potential.

Sara Adams, Acting Principal at the Wey Valley School said '  the Lord Lieutenant's Fund will recognise and support the many talents our students and young people in Dorset can bring to the community and beyond.  I am sure that this fund will no doubt raise more opportunities to celebrate our young people's achievements. The inspiring speeches by Stuart, Kate and Rebecca this evening confirm how the support from schools, communities and charitable trusts make a positive difference and the Lord Lieutenant's Fund will only further enable student's to reach their potential.

We are really pleased with the donations we have received so far and we are aiming to raise a total of £50,000 from individuals, trusts and local businesses within the next two years’.

Guests included local Councillors, MPs, corporate and individual fund holders with the Foundation, representatives from local businesses who had an opportunity to also meet some of the charities that work with young people who have been funded by the Foundation.
