GCSEPod letter

GCSEPod letter

Dear Parents / Carers,

Welcome back to a new school term.  I trust you had a pleasant festive break?

I am pleased to confirm a new on-line development to support our students with learning inside and outside of school – ‘GCSEPod’.

Students in Year 10 and 11 will shortly receive an Assembly presentation from Mr Dyer to explain the benefits of GCSEPod; which provides high quality, focused learning in a unique ‘Pod’ format across 20 popular GCSE subjects.  GCSEPod includes teacher-friendly monitoring and reporting and homework setting.  The school’s licence also allows students in Year 7, 8 and 9 to access learning resources and my staff will look to use GCSEPod appropriately to stretch student learning.

A link to GCSEPod can be found at the top of the school home web page www.weyvalley.dorset.sch.uk .  Access details, including username and passwords for students will follow.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind parents of the other on-line resources we offer students, parents and carers.

Accelerated Reading (AR)

The AR programme continues to go from strength to strength with an increasing number of students in Years 7, 8 and 9 reaching milestones with their reading targets and accelerating their reading age – this progress in the lower years will support students as they start their GCSE studies.  Parents can view their son / daughter’s progress via the HOME CONNECT link – this can be found on the school website, within the Learning Resource Centre menu (Student menu option). I would strongly encourage all parents to support their son/daughter with their reading outside of school to complement the daily 20 minutes reading time during the school day for all Year 7, 8 and 9 students.  If you have any queries with the AR programme, please contact Ms Glynn in the Learning Centre on 01305 817047 or by email at GlynnEi@weyvalley.dorset.sch.uk

Learning Gateway

The Learning Gateway provides parents with access to assessment reports and information on their son / daughter’s progress in school.  The link for the Learning Gateway can also be found on the school website at the top of the home page.  If you require access details (username / password), please email slg@weyvalley.dorset.sch.uk

Our on-line reward system VIVO keeps a log of all student rewards with each student holding a personal account to track their rewards and the opportunities to spend rewards on various items in the VIVO shop or the school shop.  In recent years, a high number of students save their VIVO points and put these towards the cost of the Year 11 Prom.  We also provide information by year group in our main corridor display boards to celebrate our student achievements.

If you have any queries with VIVO, please contact Mr Snelling at snellingp@weyvalley.dorset.sch.uk or Mr Cole at coler@weyvalley.dorset.sch.uk

WisePay & Cashless catering

I am pleased to confirm that over 70% of parents and carers now use WisePay to pay for school meals, school trips, revision materials and stationery in school.  I would encourage parents to use WisePay as this ensures prompt payment for trips (especially popular trips) and reduces student queues at lunchtime for the top up credit machine.  If you have yet to use WisePay and wish to know more, please contact Mrs Elliott (817035) or Mrs Lee (817025) in the Finance office.

I trust the many on-line resources that the school offers are helpful with day-to-day communication with the school and I am sure the introduction of GCSE Pod will only further help our students as they prepare themselves for GCSE studies and exams.

Yours sincerely,

Sara Adams

Acting Principal
