Full on sport experience for Wey Valley students and staff!

The Osprey Centre at Portland hosted the local Bustinskin Osprey Sprint Triathlon with the Wey Valley School entering a mixed student and staff team.

Wey Valley PE Teacher and lead on Outdoor Education, Mark Salmon had been so impressed with several students commitment in cycling and on the Park Run that the opportunity to enter the team for the Sprint Triathlon couldn't be missed.

Mark added,’ this is the perfect event for newcomers to the sport of triathlon and a fantastic start to the 2016 season for the more experienced athlete. The facilities at the Osprey Centre were perfect for a pool based triathlon with secure racing for the bikes, chip timing by FullOnSport, a beautiful and scenic bike ride and a fantastic flat off-road coastal run’.

The event consisted of a 300m race in the pool followed by a 17km cycle ride around Portland and a 5 km run along the causeway with good representation from the community and clubs.

Mr Salmon paid particular praise to Kai Luke and Sam Anstey who finished first and third within the team and second and third junior placings overall.  ‘With a field of 252 competitors, all team members finished in the top 100 with Kai finishing 37th place overall.’

Mark said, ‘Kai and Sam are outstanding athletes and if they continue to dedicate their passion for this sport they will do very well.’  PE teacher Ben Hunt added, ‘The event was well organised, friendly and well attended with a great atmosphere of support and personal competition. The next Sprint event is in October where we plan to have a full student and staff team.’
