Fit for the Future: Wey Valley launches new facility

A new community Sports Centre and Gym developed at the Wey Valley School will be on offer to the general public for booking and membership from September following an agreement between the school and 3d leisure, a sports facility management company.

Following significant investment by 3d leisure and the school to expand the current sports facilities the new Sports Centre will offer a Gym, which will be one of the largest on offer in the area, full of the very a latest fitness equipment, a dedicated spin studio, a large studio for exercise classes, a sports hall (for all the indoor sports) and also outdoor there are some grass pitches and a hardcourt area for netball. 

Rob Cole, Finance & Business Manager at Wey Valley said, ‘we are delighted to be working with 3d ; and this follows discussions for nearly a year on how the school can better open up its facilities to the community and also provide a first class fitness facility for our students’. 

Mr Cole added, ‘ the school is fortunate to have a range of excellent sporting facilities including our sports hall, dance studio, floodlit Multi Use Games Area and Indoor Tennis Centre and this partnership with 3d  will ensure more community and sporting club access on site after school hours and during holidays.’

Paul Dickinson, 3d’s Business Development Director said ‘as an established company that operates a number of sporting facilities at other schools and colleges, we are genuinely excited about the launch of this new Sports centre in Weymouth. The Gym will offer over 50 pieces of the very latest fitness equipment for fat burning and toning as well as a fantastic spinning room for indoor cycling which is very popular.  We will be starting pre-sales soon for membership, starting at only £14.99 per month.  We will also be offering a wide variety of fitness classes in the new dance studio and small group Personal Training will be available to make working out fun with a friend!”

The development will also see changing room improvements, a new office and general refurbishment of all the school’s PE Department.

Marie Claridge, Head of PE added, ‘my team and I are looking forward to working with 3d and providing our students with more and more access to fitness equipment and fitness training. We firmly believe that personal fitness is a key attribute to a good learner and this project will certainly help deliver that for our students’.

Sara Adams, Acting Principal at Wey Valley praised the project, ‘as a former Sports College that included a responsibility for community sport, I am really pleased that our partnership with 3d will achieve this aim and bring about a true public benefit for Weymouth and the surrounding area’.
