Emergency Closure Information

In case of bad weather, the school will undertake the following arrangements to inform students, parents and carers of school closure:

Before the school day:

  • Before the school day, the school will send a App notification or a text message via School Gateway to inform students / parents that the school is closed.
  • Parents are asked to check the school website for updates on school closure when adverse weather is forecast.
  • Parents / carers can also view the Dorset County Council website which provides a status report on all Dorset schools, including the Wey Valley School.
  • Parents / carers can also check for radio news updates on Wessex FM (97.2FM) and Wave FM (105.1FM) for announcements on school closures
  • Sign posts will also be displayed at the top of the school driveway to inform visitors / parents / carers and students that the school is closed.

During the school day:

  • A School Gateway App notification or text home to inform parents / carers that the school is closing
  • If the school has received parental consent, students will be released early from lessons to return home.
  • If the school does not have a consent form,  the student will remain in school and a phone call will be made to parents
  • If buses are still travelling, students can wait in school for the Bus to arrive. 
  • Staff will remain in school to supervise students waiting for parents / carers
