Catering showcase at the Wey Valley School

A leading chef from the HIX Academy at Weymouth College visited Year 10 Hospitality and Catering students at the Wey Valley School in Weymouth to demonstrate catering skills at its finest.
Ashley Perry from the HIX Academy said, ‘the sessions with the Wey Valley students were fantastic; a great opportunity to demonstrate a professional kitchen and to further develop the student’s learning and appetite for catering in school. We hope to invite students to the HIX kitchen at Weymouth College later this year and run an open kitchen day.’

Mrs Verity Harmey, Food and Nutrition teacher at Wey Valley said, ‘Hospitality and Catering is a popular course and the sessions were well received. Our students often serve their produce to staff as well as at school functions and they really valued the advice from Ashley and the opportunity to see and work with a professional chef; it will inspire them further with their studies and career ambitions.’
Eddie Gibson in Year 10 said, ‘it was a brilliant session with Ashley. I have learned so many good techniques and skills.’
Samantha Bowman added, ‘we had loads of fun! The group has learned so much from a real chef, the catering terms and techniques and we got to eat the food - which was gorgeous.’
Hope Hughes also said, ‘I really enjoyed the opportunity, thanks to Ashley as I have learnt a lot of new techniques and skills.’

Mrs Harmey added, ‘with a number of school catering events coming up for our students, Ashley’s visit was very timely. There is a great buzz amongst the students, lots of enthusiasm with some great ideas for our forthcoming events.’
